The arrival of spring means prom season is not far behind. But gowns and tuxedos may be more of a priority to high schools students, while parents worry about their safety. Here are a few tips to keep in mind to make prom night a success for everyone:
>> If your high school student is driving to the prom, limit the number of passengers that will be in the vehicle. Too many passengers can divert the driver’s attention.
>> Underage drinking is against the law. Parents should prohibit the consumption of alcoholic beverages by teenagers before, during, and after the prom.
>> Remind drivers and passengers to wear their seatbelts. In Pennsylvania, it’s the law.
>> Distractions such as music, cell phones, and the excitement that comes with the anticipation of the prom can create distractions for drivers. Make teens aware that when they are driving, they need to take responsibility for themselves and their passengers by paying close attention to the road.
>> Arranging for a cab or limousine to chauffeur prom goers can solve a lot of transportation issues. But remember the following when making a reservation for a limo: Ask for the total cost and a written confirmation so you don’t get stuck with a big bill at the end. Ask if there is a mandatory gratuity. Ask if there are additional charges for every stop, or if there are other surcharges or fees.
Following these tips can help make your son or daughter’s prom a night to remember.
