Tractor Trailer Spills Hazardous Liquid, Forcing Evacuations in Indiana, PA

An early morning accident on Friday forced dozens of families from their homes after a tractor-trailer spilled hazardous liquid in Indiana County.

Hazmat crews were called to the scene because corrosive liquid leaked from the truck after it overturned along Route 119 in North Mahoning Township.

WTAE.com reported that some families were able to return to their homes, but other families would only be allowed to return once the scene was clear.

According to a report by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, there are more than 800,000 shipments of hazardous materials in trucks every day. Drivers who are transporting hazardous materials are just as likely to succumb to the same errors and oversights as drivers who are transporting other material: speeding; use of controlled substances; and driver fatigue. But accidents involving hazardous materials can have even more far reaching consequences. The accident mentioned above caused the evacuation of a number of families in the area and could just as easily have involved injuries or even fatalities. If you have been involved in an accident with a tractor trailer and the fault was the driver of the truck, you may be entitled to compensation.
